The Fruitière Vinicole d’Arbois wine cooperative and wines of Jura

The Fruitière Vinicole d'Arbois was one of the first wine co-operatives in France, founded by 31 winegrowers from Arbois, on 4th January 1906. At the time, the vineyards had just been destroyed by phylloxera and the wine market was filled with mediocre wines with no controlled origin. The Fruitière winegrowers therefore decided to come up with a collective, high-quality response.
Their quest for excellence led to the award of France's first AOC for Arbois wines on 15th May 1936, followed a few years later by the Côte du Jura AOC.
Established in 1969 in the heart of Arbois, it quickly acquired a cellar and top-quality vinification facilities, at the same time as moving towards environmentally friendly viticulture by practising integrated farming. Since then, other methods such as organic farming have been practised by some of the cooperative's members.
Today, it is still an adventure of men and women who work every day with care and passion to bring you the authenticity and identity of the outstanding wines of Arbois. The Fruitière Vinicole d'Arbois currently brings together almost 100 members of the cooperative over a wine-growing area of around 300 hectares, producing more than a million bottles of Jura wines every year.
